Fall 2009 will be a time for the dragon: a Dance with Dragons and Memory of Light Release Dates
Two of Fantasy’s flagships will be released some time in the fall. Memory of Light, Robert Jordan’s grande finale to the wheel of time series and a Dance with Dragons, the latest book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. (And with Final Fantasy XIII expected to come out in the fall as well, it looks to be a busy season for fantasy nerds).
Memory of Light
Since Jordan’s recent death due to a rare blood disorder, the task of finishing the novel falls to Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson, while being a relative newcomer to the Epic Fantasy scene, has a proven track record writing the methodical, descriptive, multi-charactered fantasy that Robert Jordan was famous for. Many fans have complained the last few years that the Wheel of Time series is becoming stale and over-written, and while that’s mostly true, there’s no denying that this final spectacular conclusion to the series is something to look forward to. The tentative release date for the book is August 2009, but since Sanderson hasn’t finished the book yet, I’d be on the lookout for delays on that one.
A Dance with Dragons
The other book is A Dance with Dragons, the latest book in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. It will continue where a Feast for Crows left off. Daenerys Targaryen is expected to play a more roll in this installment. This book is not currently finished, but it’s rumoured to be close. His publisher a provisional date of April 2009. But Amazon is preselling the book now with a tentative release date of November 2009. My money is on the November release. Martin writes long books, (and he likes to watch football more than his fans would like). Expect delays.
